ESTIMATION OF LIVE WEIGHT IN DOMBABATUR BASED ON CHEST CIRCUMFERENCE

A study was carried out at Batur, Banjarnegara, to predict the body weight of Batur sheep using simple linear body measurement. Heart girth was measured in centimeters, using the tailor cloth tape, wereas body weight was determined in kilograms using a weighing scale. Sixty nine ewes and trirdty two males of live weight ranging from 3-50 kg and 4-105 kg, respectively, were used in this study. In both groups, the relationship between heart girth (x, cm) and live weight (y, kg) on millimeters block showed linear. Analyses of correlation and regression and their interpretation followed Snedecor and Cochran (1978). Result showed that relationship between body weight and heart girth were y = -37,50 + 0,9385x (R2 = 0,89) for ewes and y = -93,62 + 1,851x (R2 = 0,96) for males. The different between slope and coefficient of regression of males and those of females were significant (P<0,01). Verification of both formulas showed close between expected and actual live weight.

THE EFFECT OF PROBIOTICS IN CULTIVATION MEDIA ON WATER QUALITY AND GROWTH OF PEARL CATFISH (Clarias gariepinus) AT P2MKP FISH BOSTER CENTER, SIDOARJO, EAST JAVA

This observation aims to analyze the effect of giving probiotics in cultivation media on water quality and growth of catfish. This observation was carried out in March - May 2023 for the maintenance of biota at the P2MKP Fish Booster Center, Sidoarjo, East Java. The observation method is described descriptively. The results showed that the provision of probiotics in the cultivation media had an effect on water quality and the growth of pearl catfish. The conclusion shows the use of probiotic Bacillus sp. in the cultivation media has an influence on water quality and growth.

SETTINGS FOR SUPPLYING NUTRITION SOLUTIONS TO OVERCOME BROWN ROOTS IN SPINACH PLANTS CULTIVATED AEROPONICALLY

ABSTRACT

This study aims to determine the cause of the appearance of brown roots in spinach plants cultivated aeroponically and how to overcome it by adjusting the interval of nutrient solution administration. This study was conducted at Parung Hydroponic Farm, Parung, Bogor in June - July 2010. Microscopic observation of plant root tissue was conducted at the Microtechnic Laboratory of the Department of Agronomy and Horticulture, Bogor Agricultural University. Examination of plant pests and diseases was conducted at the IPB plant clinic. Phenolic compound testing was conducted at the Organic Laboratory of the Department of Chemistry, Bogor Agricultural University and plant tissue analysis was conducted at the Bogor Soil Research Center. This study was conducted with a one-factor Randomized Block Design, namely the time of nutrient solution administration with three treatments: nutrient solution spraying with an interval of one minute on and one minute off (P1), nutrient solution spraying with an interval of half a minute on and half a minute off (P2), and nonstop (continuous) nutrient solution spraying (P3). The study was conducted with three replications so that there were 9 experimental units. Observations were made on 15 jelly cup samples with three plants/jelly cup. The results of the study showed that brown roots in spinach plants occurred in plants given nutrients every one minute and did not occur in plants given nutrients every half a minute continuously. The brown roots in spinach plants are thought to occur because the roots experience drought, causing the plants to release phenolic compounds. This drought is caused by the application of nutrient solution at intervals that are too long, namely once a minute. Brown roots in spinach plants do not cause root tissue death, this is indicated by the roots continuing to elongate and the roots still actively carrying out their function in absorbing nutrients. This is evidenced by the results of testing the three treatments on the observed variables. All three treatments of nutrient solution administration intervals showed the same plant height growth. All three treatments also had similar results calculated from the weight per plant, plant crown weight, plant root weight, and plant weight per square meter. The treatment of nutrient solution administration settings showed differences in the number of leaves and plant root length. Brown roots in spinach plants in this study can be overcome by increasing the frequency of nutrient solution administration. Increasing the frequency of nutrient solution administration from once a minute to once a half a minute continuously can reduce the number of brown roots.

THE EFFECT OF DIFFERENT TYPES OF SHELLS ON THE REDUCTION OF TURBIDITY AND ORGANIC MATERIAL VALUES IN INTENSIVE SHRIMP POND WASTE

Super intensive ponds (TSI) are starting to develop for vaname shrimp cultivation with a stocking density of1,250 individuals/m2 and producing a productivity of 12.6 tons/1,000 m2 (Syah et al., 2017) even Atjo (2014) obtained 15.3 tons/1,000 m2 at a stocking of 720 individuals/m2. Poor environment, in shrimp ponds which canbe caused by excess food that can cause rotting at the bottom of the pond, inappropriate shrimp feeding in addition to reducing water quality, can also cause plankton blooms which will result in a decrease in landcarrying capacity such as competition in terms of oxygen use (Cholik and Poernomo 1987 in Suharyanto et al., 1996). To overcome the problem of declining water quality, it is necessary to improve water quality bothphysically, chemically, and biologically so that it can overcome problems in water quality. This study aims to make proposals for improving the buoy design that has been developed by the Department of Marine Science and Technology, Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences, Bogor Agricultural University and analyze the suitability of oceanographic conditions of wind speed and wave height where the buoy is installed. Marine environmental data collection by downloading from the AVISO website was carried out in March-May 2009 and data collection of the buoy heeling period on August 27, 2009 in the Seribu Islands. The data obtained were processed using Microsoft Excel and AutoCAD 2007. From the results of the buoy design with 2-dimensional drawings, several buoy shapes will be seen, including buoys with side views and top views. From the results of the buoy design that is close to symmetry, it can be said to be good and for the proposed buoy design is sufficient. The waters in the Seribu Islands include waters that have wind speeds ranging from 4.3 to 5.5 m/s and have an average wave height of 0.78 meters. From the results of wind speed and wave height measurements in the Seribu Islands, the wind speed in the West season in 2005-2009 was obtained with an average of 4.3 m/s, in the West-East transition season with an average of 3.3 m/s, in the East season an average of 5.5 m/s and in the East-West transition season an average of 5.1 m/s. The wave height obtained in the West season in 2005-2009 in the Seribu Islands was an average of 0.8 meters, in the West-East transition season with an average of 0.6 meters, in the East season with an average of 0.8 meters and in the East-West transition season with an average of 0.8 meters. The results of the buoy movement dynamics analysis produced a rolling movement with an average buoy heel angle (T0) of 4.85 seconds with a buoy center of gravity of 0.088 m. The rolling simulation results showed quite good results with T0 approaching 1 wave period. Simulation results of buoy movement in real sea conditions (irregular waves) using several wave types (2 m, 3 m, 4 m, and 5 m) show that the higher the waves in the real sea, the smaller the number of wave periods that impact the buoy. Similarly, the buoy's rolling period decreases from 80 to 1.50. The buoy simulation results can be seen in the buoy animation test. Testing with several marine environmental parameters, such as wave height and wind speed, showed good rolling results. The results of the seeker application showed that the buoy tended to follow the wind and wave direction and had fairly good maneuverability (return moment).
